Itinerary

Monday
Today is spent travelling to Hexham where we arrive late afternoon.

Tuesday
Following breakfast, we travel North to the pretty village of Bamburgh on the coast of Northumberland. Perched on a rocky seat dominating the village and surveying the North Sea is the imposing Bamburgh Castle. Following a visit to the Castle and free time to explore the village, we continue across the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Once on this beautiful island we enjoy free time before returning to the hotel after what has been a long, but pleasant day.

Wednesday
The Alnwick Garden, just a few minutes walk from Alnwick Castle is one of the world's most exciting contemporary gardens. Just ten years ago, the site was derelict and forgotten. Then the Duchess of Northumberland imagined creating a beautiful public garden for families to enjoy, and from her bold vision, The Alnwick Garden project began. The garden belongs to an independent charity, The Alnwick Garden Trust. The Alnwick Garden is now a vibrant place, with beautifully landscaped gardens, magnificent architecture and unique features, all brought to life with water. The Garden's centrepiece is the Grand Cascade, an iconic structure and the largest water feature of its kind in the country. (Admission into the Castle is also included today).

Thursday
A morning drive for a visit to the elegant Bowes Museum, this hidden treasure is truly a jewel in the heart of beautiful Teesdale. Standing proud in the historic market town of Barnard Castle, visitors can not only learn of John and Josephine Bowes’ wonderful story, but can also marvel at the fascinating collections which have been accumulated over the years. On our return journey we make a stop in the traditional market town of Haltwhistle.

Friday
Today we return home taking the opportunity to visit Thirsk before continuing on our journey home.
